The works of artists O’Keefe, Van Gogh, Calder, Miro and her children have influenced Cheri’s work most. She is energized by nature and bringing the outside inside with her art. Her favorite medium is oil and acrylic and works with clay for a series of birds or “Tweets”. Cheri also enjoys restoring and painting furniture to make the piece functional and alive again.
Cheri started drawing at age four and later finished in a roundabout way with an illustration degree from Kendall College of Art and Design.
She has worked in the commercial art world as a staff artist and a freelancer, and also works on commissioned pieces. Cheri has directed community art murals in Grand Rapids west side and downtown. Her pieces have been exhibited in galleries in South Haven, Niles, ArtPrize and the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts.
